The Reverdin-lsham Procedure for the Correction of Hallux Abducto Valgus

A 5-year Study of the Reverdin-Isham Bunionectomy

The results of this procedure have been good to excellent. To document the results, 1,000 cases of the Reverdin-Isham procedure were evaluated. These cases were divided into three classifications, as previously discussed: mild, moderate, and severe. Patients from 60 randomly drawn cases were instructed to return to the clinic and were evaluated. The evaluation of the results of the Reverdin-Isham procedure included objective and subjective findings and results of new postoperative radiographs. The results of the 5 year evaluation were impressive. No patient that had undergone surgery less than 1 year before was evaluated. A significant reduction of the hallux abductus valgus angle and first intermetatarsal angle was observed (Table 1).

Of the cases evaluated, 90% of the results were excellent, 10% were good. The patients who had good results were women who were free of pain; however, they were restricted in the wearing of high-heeled dress shoes.

Table 1: Long-term reduction of Deforimty (in degrees)
